Privacy Policy
Last Updated: July 10, 2026
Your privacy is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy describes how wah(•̀ᴗ•́)moji ("we", "our", or "us") manages your data in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable privacy regulations.
1. No Server-Side Personal Data Collection
We do not operate backend user accounts, databases, or tracking servers.
- We do not collect, store, or process your name, email address, IP address, or any other personal identifiers on our servers.
- We do not use tracking cookies or analytics pixels to build user profiles.
2. Local-Only Storage (GDPR Compliance)
To provide personalization features, the Service stores configurations and logs directly in your browser's local storage (localStorage). This data never leaves your device:
- Favorites List (
kaomoji-favorites): Tracks the emoticons you have starred. - Recent Copies (
kaomoji-recent-copies): Log of your copied kaomojis and their usage frequency. - Theme Preference (
theme): Stores your preference for Light Mode or Dark Mode.
Because this data remains entirely under your control on your physical device, we do not have access to it.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your local data based on:
- Contractual Necessity / Functionality: Storing your layout and favorite emoticons is necessary to deliver the features of the Service you request.
- User Consent: Storing these preferences on your local device is initiated by your explicit actions (e.g. clicking the heart icon, copying a face, toggling dark mode).
4. Your GDPR Rights & How to Exercise Them
Under the GDPR, you have the following rights, which you can exercise directly without needing to contact us:
- Right of Access & Portability: You can access your favorites and recent copies list directly in the app view. You can also download your favorites list as a structured JSON file at any time by clicking the Export button in the Favorites section.
- Right to Rectification & Erasure: You can delete single favorite items or clear your entire history instantly using the Clear All confirmation buttons in the "Recent" and "Favorites" sections, or by clearing your browser's cache/cookies.
- Right to Restrict Processing: You can disable local storage and cookies entirely within your browser settings.
5. Third-Party Hosting
The Service is served via static web hosting providers (such as Cloudflare Pages, Netlify, or Vercel). These hosting providers may automatically record standard server logs (including your IP address, browser type, and time of access) to ensure service security, DDoS mitigation, and routing. These logs are governed by the hosting provider's respective privacy policy and are not shared with us for commercial purposes.
6. Contact Us
If you have any questions or concerns regarding these practices, you can raise an issue on our project's public repository.
